{"id":11376,"date":"2021-07-29T19:15:46","date_gmt":"2021-07-29T17:15:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ericfavre.com\/lifestyle\/uk\/?page_id=11376"},"modified":"2021-09-07T09:32:47","modified_gmt":"2021-09-07T07:32:47","slug":"detox-in-the-history-of-medicine","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ericfavre.com\/lifestyle\/uk\/home\/detox\/detox-in-the-history-of-medicine\/","title":{"rendered":"Detox in the History of Medicine"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-page\" data-elementor-id=\"11376\" class=\"elementor elementor-11376\" data-elementor-settings=\"[]\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-section-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"penci-section penci-disSticky penci-structure-10 elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-d5d3037 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"d5d3037\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"penci-ercol-100 penci-ercol-order-1 penci-sticky-ct  elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-e1065bd\" data-id=\"e1065bd\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-91072d4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-html\" data-id=\"91072d4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"html.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<p>\r\n      It is true that <strong>DETOX<\/strong>&nbsp;is fashionable at the beginning of the 21st \r\n      century, but in reality this necessary detoxification of the organism so \r\n      beneficial to health has roots that go back several millennia in the \r\n      history of medicine.The following two references bear witness to this.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <h2>\r\n      Detox and the Ebers Papyrus\r\n    <\/h2>\r\n    <h3>\r\n      The Ebers Papyrus\r\n    <\/h3>\r\n    <p>\r\n      The extraordinary document entitled the 'Ebers Papyrus' is the oldest \r\n      surviving medical mannual from antiquity, being 3,500 years old.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      It was written during the reign of Pharaoh Amenhotep (1500 BC).\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      This papyrus was discovered by Edwin Smith in Luxor in 1862, and was \r\n      later purchased by the German Egyptologist Georg Ebers who gave it his \r\n      name as he was responsible for deciphering the hieroglyphics of this \r\n      precious papyrus which is now kept at the University Library in Leipzig.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      It is also the longest written document found from ancient Egypt.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      It is more than 20 metres long and 30 centimetres wide, an authentic \r\n      medical treatise of 877 paragraphs, describing diseases in all branches \r\n      of medicine (rheumatology, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, gynaecology, \r\n      dermatology ...) with the corresponding prescriptions.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      The Egyptian pharmacopoeia of this period cited in the Ebers papyrus \r\n      concerns more than 500 substances taken from the plant kingdom, among \r\n      which : myrrh, aloe, castor leaves, saffron, lotus flowers, lily \r\n      extract, poppy juice, balsam oil, resin, frankincense tears, hemp, \r\n      acacia juice, garlic, aloe, benzoin, chamomile flowers, coloquint, \r\n      cypress, date, fig, gentian root, pomegranate, bay leaf, sweet clover, \r\n      mint, mustard, myrrh, walnut, onion, pistachio, castor oil, rose ...\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      And what does the Ebers papyrus say?\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      &quot;<em>It is necessary to begin by purifying the body by eliminating \r\n      the miasmas<\/em>&quot;.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      The &quot;miasmas&quot; in question are today named differently, they are the \r\n      waste products of digestive catabolism, the toxic elements of our \r\n      environment that we breathe or absorb, contained in our food, for \r\n      example food additives.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <h2>\r\n      Detox and Hyppocrate\r\n    <\/h2>\r\n    <h3>\r\n      Hippocrates\r\n    <\/h3>\r\n    <p>\r\n      Hippocrates (460 - 377 BC) is considered the father of medicine.He was \r\n      inspired by Greek mythology.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      The Greek God of medicine, Aesklapios (Aesculapius) had two daughters:\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      # Hygie, who taught men the art of living harmoniously and close to \r\n      nature in order to stay healthy without having to resort to medicine.The \r\n      word &quot;hygiene&quot; is derived from this approach to health.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      # Panacea, who knew the art of healing with medicinal plants.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      Hippocrates described the medical art as <em>Primum non nocere<\/em>&nbsp;(first, \r\n      do no harm) and<em>Natura medicatrix<\/em>&nbsp;(it is nature that heals).\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      Not forgetting that leitmotif that informs the 10 volumes constituting \r\n      Hippocrates' work &quot;<em>Let your food be your medicine<\/em>&quot;.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      Hippocratic medicine has a holistic approach (a word derived from the \r\n      Greek <em>holos<\/em>meaning global): the human being must be considered in \r\n      his physical, mental and emotional wholeness.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      Hippocrates enunciates the notion of humorism.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      Hippocrates' &quot;humours&quot;, redefined in contemporary terms, are the blood, \r\n      the lymph, the interstitial liquids in which the cells bathe and the \r\n      intracellular liquids in which the organelles of the cytoplasm of the \r\n      cells bathe.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      To cure any disease, Hippocrates says that one must begin with a \r\n      detoxification cure in order to stimulate the elimination of the \r\n      &quot;vitiated humours&quot;
