Along with leucine and \r\n      valine, it is one of the BCAAs (branched-chain amino acids).\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      It is a glucoforming amino acid, i. e. its degradation can form \r\n      carbohydrates by passing through the Krebs cycle.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <h2>\r\n      ITS ROLE\r\n    <\/h2>\r\n    <ul>\r\n      <li>\r\n        Source of muscle energy\r\n      <\/li>\r\n      <li>\r\n        Prevents muscle catabolism\r\n      <\/li>\r\n      <li>\r\n        Improves exercise endurance\r\n      <\/li>\r\n      <li>\r\n        Necessary for the formation of haemoglobin\r\n      <\/li>\r\n      <li>\r\n        Stabilises and regulates blood glucose levels\r\n      <\/li>\r\n      <li>\r\n        Improves recovery in athletes\r\n      <\/li>\r\n      <li>\r\n        Anti-stress\r\n      <\/li>\r\n      <li>\r\n        Burns fat*\r\n      <\/li>\r\n    <\/ul>\r\n    <p>\r\n      <em>*BCAAs have been shown to improve fat burning, particularly Leucine, \r\n      but recent Japanese studies (1) found that isoleucine supplementation \r\n      could also cause weight loss and decrease fat growth in mice. The \r\n      amounts of fatty acids in the muscles and liver were reduced, indicating \r\n      that these organs actually burned more fat. <\/em>\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <h2>\r\n      Isoleucine requirements\r\n    <\/h2>\r\n    <p>\r\n      Requirements are estimated at 1 to 20g per day.
