Babies and teenagers are particularly prone to vitamin D \r\n      deficiency.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <h2>\r\n      FORMS OF VITAMIN D\r\n    <\/h2>\r\n    <p>\r\n      There are two forms of vitamin D, D2 and D3. Vitamin D3 is the vitamin D \r\n      naturally produced by the skin: cholecalciferol (animal form) while \r\n      vitamin D2 is a plant form.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      Encourage extracurricular outdoor physical activity for your child.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <h2>\r\n      FILL UP ON VITAMIN D WITH SUNLIGHT\r\n    <\/h2>\r\n    <p>\r\n      Exposure to the sun can provide 80-90% of vitamin D needs. Sun exposure \r\n      should be for a minimum of 10-15 minutes. Exposure should take place at \r\n      least 2 to 3 times a week.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      In winter the sun's rays are too steeply inclined to the horizon to \r\n      allow efficient transformation of the precursor into vitamin D.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <h2>\r\n      THE EFFECTS OF VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY\r\n    <\/h2>\r\n    <p>\r\n      Vitamin D deficiency in children leads to rickets.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      This is characterised by delays in motor development and growth, failure \r\n      of the fontanelles to close and fuse, poor bone formation and sleep \r\n      disturbances.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n    <p>\r\n      This disease corresponds to osteomalacia in adults.
