It is through the tendons that the muscles, when they contract, allow
the mobilisation of the joints. For example, it is the bicipital tendon
which attaches to the upper part of the forearm which allows the flexion
of the elbow when you contract your biceps.

Note that some muscles have more than two tendons. This is the case for
the biceps or the quadriceps, the anterior thigh muscle.Find out all
there is to know abouttendinitis and its treatment.

      TENDINITIS: INFLAMMATORY REACTION

In sportsmen and women, for whom the area is particularly muscular, the
tendon does not have the necessary strength to support the efforts to
      which it is subjected.

As a result, there is usually an inflammatory reaction in the tendon
called "tendonitis".This phenomenon is even more frequent in
bodybuilders who put extreme strain on their joints with heavy loads and
      repetitive movements.

Tendinopathies fall into the category of musculoskeletal disorders
(MSD).They can be caused by intense efforts, repeated gestures, lack of
hydration, nutritional imbalance (excess of red meat or acidifying
food), certain drugs (fluoroquinolones, corticoids), joint misalignment
(misaligned joint imposing an abnormal tension on the tendon), dental
      infections.

The inflamed tendon becomes painful, on palpation, muscle contraction
      and stretching, making training difficult.

      MOST COMMONLY AFFECTED AREAS:

        THE SHOULDER (rotator cuff tendons),

THE ELBOW (tennis elbow and golf elbow),

        THE WRIST,

        THE HEEL (Achilles),

      THE EFFECTIVENESS OF OSTEOPATHY

Osteopathy treats tendonitis by relieving the tension to which the
tendons are subjected and by restoring correct joint mobility. The
osteopath will use gentle, mainly facial techniques.

The osteopath will work on the joint in pain and its periphery. He will
also treat viscerally, especially the liver.

To have a complete cure, the physiotherapist and the dietician are
      important.

It is also advisable to have a balanced diet (limiting acidification), a
good hydration, to watch one's dental hygiene, to warm up and stretch
      well before and after training.

      THE EXPERT'S ADVICE

Jérôme CATAFORT, Osteopath d.O practising in the Monts du Lyonnais and
Nord Isère, Official Osteopath of the AG2R La mondiale cycling team

For high level sportsmen and women who compete, I recommend at least 3
osteopathy sessions per year (except during tendinopathic crises):

Before the competition as prevention, for a better physical and mental
      preparation,

Just after the effort, for recovery,

And during the rest period, as background work, essential for progress.

      FOR MORE INFORMATION
