When the hunger signal is corrupted, it becomes easy to consume too many calories and gain weight. When the urge to eat is abnormal (too close to a meal or after a meal, insurmountable hunger, sugar cravings, hunger pangs), this may be due to excessive changes in levels of insulin, the hormone responsible for storing calories, which is secreted when sugar or carbohydrates are consumed.

How to reduce appetite?

By adopting a balanced diet and starting by reducing the intake of fast sugars, from sweets, pastries and soft drinks, as well as the saturated fats found in fried foods, sauces and most biscuits and bakery products. Sugars and bad fats are responsible for the obesity epidemic in the developed world, and it is precisely for this reason that they should be avoided.
To reduce hunger, eat a diet rich in protein, fibre and good fats such as omega-3. Only eat carbohydrates with a low glycaemic index, such as sweet potato or oatmeal. They contain a lot of fibre which increases the feeling of fullness and reduces sugar cravings between meals. Don't neglect the good fats from nuts, seeds and oily fish. Salmon, for example, is an appetite suppressant.

The benefits of food supplements

Appetite suppressant nutritional supplements are intended to reduce the urge to eat and fill up, either by reducing the appetite for sugar, by stimulating the central nervous system, or by increasing the volume of the food bolus directly in the stomach.
Stimulant appetite suppressants usually contain caffeine or green tea, and actually reduce appetite as long as they are active in the body.
Supplements that reduce sugar cravings usually contain chromium, alpha lipoic acid or B vitamins, which balance the body's use of carbohydrates and stabilise insulin levels.
Soluble fibre products that swell in the stomach, such as konjac or psyllium. They are usually taken 30 minutes before a meal, with a glass of water. They have the advantage of being natural and stimulate intestinal transit, ideal for keeping a flat stomach!
