Oats: The Cereal with Many Properties

by damien

Very popular and consumed in the world of bodybuilding, oatmeal has become indispensable to many people for its nutritional qualities (selected carbohydrates and fats), its richness in fibre, vitamins and minerals. Unfortunately not much consumed in the usual diet, this cereal has many qualities for both sports and non-sports people.

SELECTED CARBOHYDRATES & FATS

Oats have a medium glycaemic index (GI) which allows the body to use carbohydrates efficiently. In the context of recovery after physical effort, it will be appreciated because of a prolonged glycemic recharge over time. Oats contain about 8% lipids, mainly unsaturated fatty acids, which means that they are necessary for the body and are therefore not "bad" fats.

AN IDEAL PROTEIN CONCENTRATION

Compared to other cereals, oats have a high protein content. Furthermore, oat protein is considered to be of good quality as it contains several essential amino acids (i. e. the body cannot synthesise them). As we know, proteins and amino acids are essential for the proper development and construction of muscle fibres as they are the building blocks of muscle.

USEFUL FIBRES

Oatmeal contains beta-glucan, a soluble fibre present in large quantities in this cereal. These fibres have a satiating effect because they swell up and fill the stomach. In addition, this cereal contains a large proportion of soluble and insoluble fibre, which has beneficial effects on the digestive system. Oats are a good source of fibre for the digestive system and help to normalise the intestinal transit. Oats are a good source of essential vitamins such as B1, B9, B8, B5 and E. It also contains minerals including zinc, selenium, copper, iron, manganese and magnesium. It is therefore a cereal that can meet the body's daily needs.
