Phycocyanin (from the Greek phyco meaning "seaweed" and cyanine coming from the color cyan which is derived from the Greek kyanos "blue green") is the association of proteins of the phyco-biliprotein family and water-soluble pigments of photosynthesis.

Phycocyanin is an active compound in spirulina. It is important that Spirulina is organic because it has a capacity to capture light energy, but also all the substances that could be undesirable and found in polluted nature.

Studies have shown that phycocyanine facilitated the differentiation of stem cells within the bone marrow, it stimulates the secretion of the hormone Erythropoin (EPO) promoting the production of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.

It is a stimulant and regulator of the immune system recommended in recurrent infections, allergic rhinitis and degenerative diseases.

Its antioxidant and anti-radical functions are 70 times more important than SOD (Super Oxide Dismutase), 16 times more effective than Vitamin E and 20 times more powerful than Vitamin C.

It has a very important role in the functions of the liver. It decreases hepatotoxicity caused by chemicals to such an extent that it is systematically recommended in case of chemotherapy, it is able to bind to bile acids, it is a biliprotein like bilirubin.
