Electrostimulation In Bodybuilding

by damien

Electrostimulation is a muscle building technique which complements voluntary training. It is used during physical preparation to stimulate strength and muscular endurance, during recovery after sustained physical effort to allow for easier continuation of sessions or competitions and in the case of tendon or muscle pain for or during rehabilitation after an injury.

THE TECHNIQUE OF ELECTROSTIMULATION BY COMPEX®

Electrostimulation consists of diffusing electrical impulses of variable intensity via the nerve fibres through electrodes, in order to provoke the contraction of the muscles.

THE ADVANTAGES

Electrostimulation is ideal for different types of profiles. It is suitable for high level sportsmen and women, for people who simply want to keep fit and for people suffering from pain. Physiotherapists use it for rehabilitation after an injury because electrostimulation allows the muscles to work while preserving the joints.

THE PRO'S OPINION

  • Caroline Dupouy, Compex® Marketing Manager

As a complement to voluntary training, the sportsman can use electrostimulation to improve his muscular qualities in a specific way for his discipline. A controlled study (with a control group) by J. Gondin showed that after 4 weeks of strength training with electrostimulation, the maximum strength increased by 17% without any visible hypertrophy, the gain being only attributable to an improvement in the muscle control. Finally, electrostimulation does not in any way make you lose weight, as there is no significant energy expenditure during a programme.
