Sport as a Cure for Burn-Out

by damien

Burn-Out Syndrome is a generic term for a state of emotional, mental and physical fatigue characterised by a lack of motivation and performance after months or even years of overwork and overdoing it; it is a vicious circle.

What is burnout?

This concept of professional burnout appeared in the 1970s and would be a response to chronic emotional stress, having 3 components:

  • Emotional exhaustion, which refers to the loss of energy and the feeling of being subjected to the task which becomes intolerable.
  • Decreased productivity at work with a strong sense of non-achievement.
  • Depersonalisation, which consists of distancing oneself from the professional environment on a human level and no longer sharing its codes.

Physiologically the Burn-Out induces the increase of 2 hormones Cortisol and Adrenalin and the decrease of 2 neurotransmitters Dopamine (responsible for well-being) and Serotonin (regulator of Sleep).

Practise sport regularly to control your BURN-OUT

The evacuation of the stress hormone Cortisol from the body is clearly accelerated when we are active in sports. In the case of endurance sports, such as jogging, there is also a release of endorphins ("happy hormones"), which will further contribute to a feeling of well-being and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. Regular exercise (3 times a week for at least 20 minutes) before or after work is therefore a healthy way of preventing stress.

Special diet or supplements to get rid of it

If you don't do sports or as a supplement , stress resistance can also be influenced and strengthened by diet or supplements. Thus,Sacred Basil will act naturally to regulate the concentrations of cortisol and adrenalin in the blood, thus allowing stress to be regulated in the same way as a sporting activity, but in an even more effective way when used as a food supplement, since the plant is much more concentrated.

Kudzu and Rhodiola are also excellent regulators of Dopamine and Serotonin, thus promoting well-being and sleep.

Some very specific milkproteins also have an action on Burn-Out, recent studies have shown that thanks to their selective affinity for certain brain receptors called GABA- A receptors, they increase the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neuro-transmitter well known for its inhibitory action on anxiety and stress-related disorders.

This mechanism of action gives these milk proteins extremely effective properties against the symptoms of Stress and Burn-Out, all without lactose intolerance.

The BURN-OUT, a very real social phenomenon, is not a fatality. An accompaniment, as well as specific complementation, coupled if possible with a physical activity allows today excellent results allowing to find Well-being, Motivation and Performance.
